Down for a few days

Postby skitish » Jul 22, 2010 4:34 pm

My comp went down 2 days ago and I am trying to get it fixed. I have it down to the power supply or Mobo. I had it on Tuesday and left to run an errand and when I came back it was off and will not come back on. I have tried a few other things to no success. I will be back on a.s.a.p.

Most likely the PSU Skit. You have an old one from another system to try?

Injun hit it on the head! I would look at the PSU first.

Another thing I forgot to add was when I opened the case and plugged it in the light were the psu connects to the mobo was on as well as the light to the modem? the thing is I hit the power switch and nothing happens? I dont have another psu at the moment so I will have to wait and see what happens Sunday night.

Depending on what is wrong I may be down longer than I thought due to my better half denying my request for extra funds. I will update as I find out more.

I had a sudden death like that, swapped power supplies, started unplugging drive power, cards, even the CPU, then RMA'd the MB, which was returned no problem found. Turned out one of my USB sockets on the front panel had cracked/broke and shorted out, and I had never thought to unplug the little header cables. Boy did I feel silly.

Ok so I started to 1 by one unplug things from my mobo and try to start....each thing I unplug and try to start the fan over the processor runs for a split second, the back fan twitchs and bit????? If I just unplug the cord from the back of the PSU for 20 seconds and plug it back in the fans do the same thing. Atleast it shows some life :banghead:

Definitely sounds like power supply, try that first and the next step would be a new motherboard.

Might want to invest in one of these for long term. Cheap and can get rid of a lot of worry time....Maybe your buddy has one....
